The wedding of Miss Stella Shaw and H. Carl Waite was solemnized at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Shaw. Dr. W.F. Powell, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated. After a reception, the young couple left for a wedding trip. On their return, they’ll reside in St. Elmo.
Miss Elizabeth Kirkpatrick is entertaining with a weekend house party on Lookout Mountain. Her guests are Misses Louise Frazier, Stuart Anderson, Ruth Dayton, Emma Sue Smartt, and Nancy Kirkpatrick.
Sunday, Oct. 11
Mr. and Mrs. A.S. Glover announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Grace, to DeForrest William Evans. The wedding will take place in November at the home of the bride’s parents.
Monday, Oct. 12
Miss Mary Belle Wallace entertained with a weekend house party at her cottage on Walden’s Ridge. Her guests were Prof. and Mrs. Noel Carr, Misses Fannie Howard, Lilllian Winters, Maude Bowser, Sadie Hall, Louise Mountcastle, Pearl Haley, Gertrude Wright, Kathleen Stewart, Etta Rankin, and Sara Martin Lauderdale.
Due to the cotton situation, the Chamber of Commerce President Kruesi discourages the project to “Buy a Bale” of cotton from the growers at six and one-half cents a pound and selling at 10 cents by brokers, saying it’s unfair to the farmers.
Tuesday, Oct. 13
Ralph Wardlaw will return from New York, where he attended the World Series and visited friends. En route home, he will visit at Washington & Lee University in Virginia.
Mrs. Butterfield of Evansville, Ind., will arrive this week to be the guest of Mrs. Thomas Carothers on McCallie Avenue.
Wednesday, Oct. 14
Miss Lorraine Mishler, George Rule, and H.E. Foster of New York have formed a dancing club and opened a studio in New York. They’ve been very successful, and are appearing in six hotels in New York and others in Boston, Philadelphia, and Brooklyn. Mr. Foster is president and Mr. Rule secretary and treasurer of the club.
Mr. and Mrs. Linus W. Llewellyn have issued invitations to a dance to be given for their debutante daughter, Louise, at the Patten Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Steele and Mrs. W.R. Steele will move down from Lookout Mountain Thursday for the winter.
Thursday, Oct. 15
Less than 40 veterans, members of the Cumberland, were present at the 42nd convention here when it was called together by President Orlando A. Somers of Indiana. The main social event will be tonight at the Patten Hotel with Capt. C.D. Mitchell as toastmaster.
Friday, Oct. 16
Miss Evelyn Armstrong left Thursday for Sweetwater to attend the Eastman–Jones wedding. Miss Armstrong, a violinist, will play at the wedding while accompanied by Mrs. Samuel Jones on the organ.
Miss Margret Davies will return soon from a visit in Kentucky. Mrs. J.L. Davies and Margaret will spend part of the winter at Signal Mountain Inn.
