Jordan Cornelison found a love for construction at a young age. Since then, his passion has only grown as the company his father and uncle started in their basement in 1993 – P&C Construction – has developed into a national company with projects in 24 states.
Cornelison began working full time for P&C in 2008 as a laborer. From there, he climbed the company ladder to carpenter, foreman, superintendent, assistant project manager and project manager.
Local projects on which P&C Construction worked during that time included the new track and field at Howard High School, Charles A. Bell Park, The Passage, Easy Bistro, Main Street Meats, Hi-Fi Clyde’s and others.
“You appreciate the opportunity to work in the construction industry when you complete a project and can look back and realize you were a part of building it,” he says.
Cornelison is now vice president of his family’s business. He’s also the 2020 president of the Homebuilders Association of Greater Chattanooga.
Cornelison joined the Homebuilders’ board of directors in 2014 at the request of former president Ethan Collier. In 2016, former president Chris Mabee asked him to join the executive committee.
Cornelison steps into the role as the building industry faces many challenges, including steep slopes policies, affordable housing, workforce development, sewer access and regulatory and zoning issues.
Cornelison plans to address these and other issues by strengthening the local association and its membership.
“We need to work together for the common good of the industry,” he says. “Speaking with one voice and one common goal gives us the ability to make things happen.”
