Miss Inez Hyder gave her dancing pupils a Masked Ball last night at Hotel Patten. Their costumes were colorful and interesting. The Grand March was led by Susan Loder and Dorothy Patten. Several new steps in exhibition were given, including the “Tattoo,” the “Castle Waltz,” and the “Triple One-Step.”
Sponsors for the basketball game tonight at the Armory for The Chattanooga Tigers are Misses Helen Kline, Rose Sprinkle, and Lucille Deppen. Sponsors for the Knoxville Tigers are Misses Josephine Colyar and Lula Brown.
Sunday, Jan. 31
Chattanooga was saddened today by the death of Hon. Thomas M. McConnell at his home on Fifth Street. Chancellor McConnell was 84 years old, and had served the bench for 24 years. He was a Major in the Confederate Army. He came to Chattanooga in 1876, having been appointed Clerk and Master here.
The Chattanooga Automobile Co. has disposed of all the Paige cars they had in their showroom, but are expecting more. J.A. Wardlaw purchased a Paige roadster this week. The new cars will be six and seven-cylinder cars.
Monday, Feb. 1
Miss Ruth Mills is attending the University of Tennessee. Mrs. Florence Mills and Miss Elizabeth Mills are also in Knoxville.
Mrs. McCoy of Columbus, Ind., is the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stapp, on Vine Street. Mrs. McCoy was the former Miss Byrd Stapp.
Mrs. E. R. Betterton, Jr., Miss Whitlow Betterton, and Mrs. Locke Holt, Jr., have returned from a two-week trip to Florida and Cuba.
Tuesday, Feb. 2
Hal F. Wiltse was elected yesterday by the directors of the Chamber of Commerce to succeed W. Scott Raulston as secretary. Mr. Wiltse has been assistant secretary and publicity chairman.
Mrs. Arthur Allen and children will remain in St. Petersburg until March.
Mrs. Victor Golibart and baby, of Etna, were the guests of Mrs. T.C. Thompson, Jr., yesterday.
Wednesday, Feb. 3
The Nancy Ward Chapter, D.A.R. held its first meeting yesterday at the courthouse. Meeting time was taken in signing the new members. Twelve charter members are necessary to organize a chapter. Mrs. C.C. Huntington is Regent. The State Regent, Mrs. George White Baxter, will be their guest soon.
Mrs. Frank Llewellyn is ill with the grippe.
Thursday, Feb. 4
At a meeting of the North Chattanooga Book Club at the home of Mrs. T.H. Payne, a beautiful Bride’s Book was presented to Miss Margaret Kerr, a bride-elect. Miss Kerr’s mother is a charter member of the club.
Mrs. Steward of Cincinnati is here in the city, having been called by the death of her sister, Mrs. Putnam Morrison.
Mrs. Newton Logan entertained the Needlework Club at her home on Oak Street.
Friday, Feb. 5
Mrs. Dunbar Newell will go to New Orleans to attend Mardi Gras. Later, she will go to Baton Rouge to visit her brothers. She will be away about three weeks.
