At a meeting of the National Lumber Exporters, Fred Arn of Chattanooga was unanimously elected president of the organization, which is one of the most prominent and exclusive of its kind in the United States. The meeting was held at Hotel Patten.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wesley Stauffer of Pittsburgh, Penn., announce the engagement of their daughter, Pauline Roberta, to Frank Magill Bogart, son of Dr. and Mrs. W.G. Bogart. Both young people are well known and have many friends in Chattanooga.
Mrs. J.L. McCollum of Pikeville is in West Ellis Hospital, where she will undergo an operation today.
Sunday, January 26
The dancing carnival “Kirmess” given at the Albert Theater drew great crowds. Will Shepherd and Miss Minnie Brock had leading parts. Miss Irene Whiteside and F.L. Lynnwood sang “If I Should.” Misses Mamie Craig, Marjory Davidson and Irene Whiteside were showered with flowers. The “Kirmess” was successful in its entertainment and in fundraising for the Old Ladies Home. The sum of $3,000 was realized.
Miss Sarah Watt and Maurice Bird will be quietly married at the bride’s home on Oak Street. Mr. Bird, now en route from Berdice, British Guiana, will arrive next week.
Bobby Strauss of Chattanooga, while playing in New Haven, Conn., was entertained by the following Yale students from Chattanooga: Vaughn Miller, Henry Pickens, Jesse Evans and Carl White.
Monday, January 27
The citizens of Ridgedale will hold a meeting at 8 p.m. in the Knights of Pythias Hall. The business league has invited T.C. Betterton to discuss the annexation question. Oak Grove League will also hold a meeting on annexation. Attorney R.T. Wright is planning a series of suburban meetings for this purpose.
Tuesday, January 28
Miss Isabelle Gettys left Tuesday for her home in Athens, Tenn., after a visit to Miss Ella Sims on Clark Street.
Mrs. N.C. Steele and Mrs. Willard Steele will entertain informally this afternoon at their home on Missionary Ridge.
Thursday, January 30
Mrs. E.A. Wheatley and Miss Katherine Kaufman will entertain at the Golf and Country Club in honor of Miss Helen Kline, one of this season’s debutantes, and her guest, Miss Mary Sprinkel of Harrisonburg, Va.
Friday, January 31
In reorganizing the Nyberg Automobile Works, local people are in control. William F. Best, president of the Cedar Products Co., will become manager of the new organization. Mr. Nyberg will return to his home in Anderson, Ind. F.H. Dowler, Jr., will continue as secretary. The Nyberg factory at George and Buckley Streets will make only high-grade cars.
Mrs. James Maher of Roane Mountain and Miss Martha Wilder of Knoxville are the guests of Mrs. L. G. Gillespie at Rees Farm.
Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Allison are receiving congratulations on the birth of a son, who will be named for J.H. Allison. Mrs. Allison is the former Miss Pansy Sanders.
