Don Allen has retired as the chairman of the board of directors of the Hamilton County Emergency Communications District.
Allen began his service to the board in 1986 while the director of Hamilton County Emergency Services. During his tenure, he served 24 years as the board’s chairman and four years as its vice chairman.
The Emergency Communications District accomplished many firsts under Allen’s leadership.
As chairman, Allen led the effort to consolidate public safety emergency communication services in 2009. Allen also guided the Emergency Communications District’s efforts to earn international accreditation in 2013.
In addition, Allen introduced new technologies and processes for emergency communications to Hamilton County, such as ASAP to PSAP and Text-To-911.
Richard Brown succeeds Allen as chairman of the Emergency Communications. Brown says Allen’s leadership “helped to envision and implement a unified Hamilton County Emergency Communications District.”
Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger says Allen’s efforts to establish a countywide unified emergency communications system made the county’s residents safer. “The safety of Hamilton County citizens has always been of paramount importance to Don.”
