The County High School board at its first meeting of the year accepted the resignation of A.W. Shofner, who was serving as Farm Demonstrator in Hamilton County.
Sponsors chosen for the Chattanooga Tigers vs. Nashville Ramblers game at the Armory tonight are Misses Maude and Josephine Whiteside and Katherine Henderson for the Tigers, and Misses Nell Blink and Frances Sholar for the Ramblers. Tiger team is composed of McCollum, Cornelius, Mahoney, Gambill, Brockhouse, and King.
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Cole of Port Huron, Mich., are the guests of their daughter, Mrs. Thomas Trimby, and Mr. Trimby on Missionary Ridge.
Sunday, Jan. 24
OttakerCadek, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Cadek, was injured in a skiing accident in Switzerland. A student of the violin, he was on Christmas vacation in Zurich, and will be confined to his room there for some time.
Monday, Jan. 25
Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Sadd will leave for Ansonia, Conn., for a 10-day stay with Mrs. Sadd’s father, Mr. Terry, who will celebrate his 80th birthday.
Jesse Hunt, a well-known Chattanoogan who is a student at Georgia Tech, has decided to leave and prepare himself for the Baptist ministry in foreign fields. He has entered the Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He was presented to the Baptist Church by Dr. E.B. Wise. Dr. W.F. Powel told of his decision to enter the missionary field.
Tuesday, Jan. 26
Long distance telephone service began yesterday between New York and San Francisco. President Wilson opened the service by talking to the head of the San Francisco Exposition, President Moore, Alexander Graham Bell, and President Vail of the American Telephone Co., at different points.
Wednesday, Jan. 27
A large and enthusiastic meeting was held in the Club Room at the Courthouse by the newly organized D.A.R. chapter. The name “Nancy Ward” was selected and officers elected. Mrs. C.C. Huntington was named Regent; Miss Mamie Nixson, secretary; Mrs. W.C. Johnson, treasurer; and Mrs. A.A. Fry, poetess. The chapter name was suggested by Miss Sarah Ruth Frazier.
Miss Mary Katherine Faucette, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Faucette, is ill with diphtheria.
Thursday, Jan. 28
Miss Johnnie Walker is visiting Miss Lyde Barnes, and later will be the guest of Miss Frances Henderson.
Miss Lucy Holtzclaw will take a large group of young people on an extensive Western tour. They will visit the San Francisco Exposition and go by boat to British Columbia.
Miss Mary Bell Thomas will give an informal luncheon Saturday at the English Tea Room for Miss Elizabeth Loder.
Friday, Jan. 29
Miss Alice Stafford is in Atlanta, the guest of her brother, Rex Stafford and Mrs. Stafford. Mrs. F.M Stafford is visiting in Mobile.
Miss Bess Acree of Clarksville, Tenn., is the guest of her sister, Mrs. W.E. Brook.
