Leases have been signed with F.W. Woolworth Co. for a large store and with a national theater chain for a motion picture theater in Eastgate Center, Weldon F. Osborne, president of Osborne Enterprises, announced Saturday.

The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Downing Mitchell, 84, who had served 50 years as a priest then as chaplain of the Alexian Brothers Monastic Order and pastor of the parish of St. Augustine on Signal Mountain, died Saturday at the Alexian Brothers Rest Home.

The Quarterly County Court authorized and directed the county’s legal staff to conduct an investigation of exactly what powers the court now possesses and to submit a report in writing. Squire E.W. Godbey was elected to a third term as county judge pro tempore.

Frank Orend has been promoted to manager of the business, research, and development department, a newly created division of the Greater Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce.

C. Melbern Wilcox, widely known business and civic leader here, was installed as 1965 president of the Kiwanis Club of Chattanooga Tuesday at the weekly luncheon meeting at Hotel Patten. He succeeds Dr. William G. West, pastor of the First Christian Church. Dr. West was presented a plaque by States R. Finley for his contribution to “outstanding club leadership.”
Mrs. Mary Virginia Austin, a leading Chattanooga woman Realtor, has been appointed governor for Tennessee of the Women’s Council of the National Association of Real Estate Boards.

Seaborn C. Langley, a vice president of Street & Finney, Inc., a New York advertising agency, has joined the Chattanooga Medicine Co. as branch manager of its Chattem Laboratories product line, Alex Guerry, Jr., president of the concern, announced Wednesday.
Friday, Jan. 8
The 4th annual Institute for Management of Small Business will be held Monday evenings, Jan. 18 to March 29, on the campus of the University of Chattanooga under sponsorship of UC’s Evening College, the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, the Society for the Advancement of Management, and the Atlanta regional office of the Small Business Administration. Edwin M. Kaylor, personnel director of Chattanooga Box & Lumber Co., is coordinator of the institute.
