The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera will present Beethoven’s fifth symphony on Thursday, Jan. 23, 7:30 p.m., at the Tivoli Theatre.
The performance will mark the beginning of a yearlong celebration of the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth.
The evening will also include guest artist Alexander Sitkovetsky on Brahms’ “Violin Concerto” as well as American composer Samuel Barber’s “Second Essay for Orchestra.”
“Barber is one of my favorite composers of the 20th century because his works are often beautiful, unique and very personal, and his essays are a great representation of his style,” says Kayoko Dan, CSO music director.
Audiences will have a chance to see Sitkovetsky and the musicians of the CSO prepare for the concert during a special open rehearsal of Brahms’ “Violin Concerto” on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 8 p.m., at the Tivoli Theatre.
