Outdoor Chattanooga will add outdoor themed films and visual presentations to its annual Winter Workshop series, which will run for seven weeks beginning Friday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m., at their Coolidge Park facility. The series will begin with a showing of “Wild Bill’s Run,” a feature film that chronicles the real life adventure of a group of Minnesota men who attempted to snowmobile from Minnesota to Moscow in the 1970’s.
“Wild Bill’s Run” is the first offering in a series of free screenings called Camp Chair Cinema.
The new Camp Chair offerings will feature outdoor and adventure focused films presented by the Lookout Wild Film Festival, as well as special slide presentations from local adventurers. All offerings in the series are free and open to the public.
“We call them ‘Camp Chair’ entertainment because we don’t have enough folding chairs to accommodate a large audience at Outdoor Chattanooga,” says Executive Director Philip Grymes. “Camp chairs are more comfortable, anyway, and they also give us the option to move the series outdoors when the weather warms up.”
Many of the Camp Chair Cinema offerings will be Chattanooga debuts. All reflect the Lookout Wild Film Festival’s mission to showcase wild places and the people that they inspire.
Two more presentations, under the Camp Chair Traveler title, will offer a virtual tour of the Chattanooga area’s wild caves by Chattanooga Grotto and a look in pictures and video by Ben Friberg of his landmark standup paddleboard journey from Florida to Cuba last summer.
The 2014 schedule will be rounded out with practical skills workshops. Sessions on wild edible, wayfinding with map and compass, and making a basket from kudzu will join introductions to standup paddleboarding and electric bicycles.
The public can learn more about the presentations and workshops by visiting OutdoorChattanooga.com or calling (423) 643-6888.
