Barge Design Solutions Community Fund recently awarded a $5,040 grant to the Chattanooga Area Food Bank. The money will support the food bank’s Sack Pack Program, an initiative to provide children with nutritious food in each of the 32 weekends during the school year.
Pat Moore, project manager at Barge, nominated the food bank for the grant.
“In southeast Tennessee and northwest Georgia, one in five children struggles with hunger,” Moore says. “Many children who are enrolled in free and reduced school meal programs don’t know where their next meal will come from once school lets out for the weekend. The Sack Pack program provides nutritious food to help bridge the gap from Friday to Monday.”
The grant provides 2,400 Sack Packs to children at risk for hunger during the 2019-2020 school year.
