As if to prove the late president’s maxim, 20 Realtors are taking their first steps toward becoming effective leaders in their professional Association and their community by participating in the 2016 Leadership Academy at the Greater Chattanooga Association of Realtors (GCAR).

Miller & Martin hosted its third Miller & Martin Mornings event series with presentations led by Dr. Bernie Carlson, chair of Engineering and Society at the University of Virginia, and Dr. Burkhard Huhnke, vice president of Volkswagen Group of America.

Tennessee-based Crye-Leike, the nation’s fourth largest privately-held residential real estate brokerage firm and largest in Tennessee and the Mid-South, posted a record sales year of close to $5.7 billion in 2015, the second highest sales performance in the company’s 39-year history. In comparison, the company reached its peak sales performance at $6.1 billion in 2006.

The local National Bar Association S.L. Hutchins Chapter held its first networking event at The Social Thursday, March 17, with many African-American attorneys attending.

Attorney Ariel Anthony of Husch Blackwell spearheaded the event.

CapitalMark Bank & Trust changed its name and identity to Pinnacle Financial Partners last week in a sign unveiling event at its Chattanooga office.

CapitalMark was merged with Pinnacle on July 31, 2015, giving the firm a presence in three additional East Tennessee counties. CapitalMark had continued to operate under its brand until the systems and operations of the companies were completely integrated with Pinnacle.

If you’re at the beginning of your career, you might not be thinking too much about the end of it. But even younger workers should be aware of – and saving for – their eventual retirement. And since you’ve got many years until you do retire, you’ve got a lot of options to consider – one of which is whether an IRA may be appropriate for you and, if so, what type.

Especially at times like now, when the real estate market is good, people start to ask why they should sell their home with a Realtor.

Before I became a Realtor, someone in another market told me I could easily sell my home on my own. I am glad I didn’t take their advice. I wouldn’t have known what to do if a buyer had come to me with an offer. And I would have wasted several months marketing my home only ultimately to list with a Realtor during the fall as the market was cooling down.

The National Association of Home Builders recently announced the winners of the Best in American Living Awards (BALA) – a prestigious program recognizing excellence in designs that influence the residential building industry.

Award recipients are lauded as the nation’s most creative and inventive builders, remodelers, architects, developers, land planners and interior designers.

The INSANE INFLATABLE 5K is coming to Chattanooga on Saturday, May 7. The course is approximately 3.1 miles long and will incorporate nearly a dozen giant obstacles throughout Camp Jordan Park.

The obstacles will range in size and complexity. In Mad House, runners will climb, weave, and maneuver their way to open ground. Jump Around will be the largest obstacle of its kind, with more than 70 feet of bounce pad. Finish Line will challenge participants to dodge wrecking balls, climb the rope ladder, and then slide their way to victory.

Today’s recipe fizzes! Not sizzles, but fizzes. But before we get to that, I want to give you a few fizzing facts. It doesn’t have much to do with food though. 

I received an email the other day about the many uses of Hydrogen Peroxide, and was surprised at all the claims being made about this forgotten, little super-chemical. So I checked it out and found that this little bottle of brown stuff does so much more than bubble out germs on your cut finger or skinned knee. If you are trying to “go green” here’s a great solution for cleaning your house!

The waiting room was comfortable, but crowded. Business was good. Healthcare in America showing a strong pulse, at least for those of us present that morning fortunate enough to be covered by insurance. 

KM was with me because I had been told three times that under no circumstances was I to drive home. 

I am always looking for useful proverbs, adages, mottos, and the like. Especially stuff that can be easily memorized. Like “Don’t chew with your mouth full.” And “I feel a whole lot more like I do now than I did when I got here.”

The Metropolitan Opera National Company will come to Chattanooga on May 16-17 with its full component of 27 principal singers, 32 chorister dancers, and 45-piece orchestra to present three operas; Madame Butterfly, Cinderella, and Carmen, at the Memorial Auditorium.

There will be 350 realty men as guests of Chattanooga en route to New Orleans for the national meeting of Realtors. John R. Evans, president of the Chattanooga Real Estate Exchange, received a telegram from National President Paul Steinbrecher of Chicago saying the group will arrive by special train. The local committee of entertainment is Jeff Wall, chairman; H.E. Dagley, C.D. Gordon, John R. Evans, S.O. Bankson, Clint Conn and W.J. Bass.
